Phlox pilosa is a smaller, downy species of phlox. Vegetative growth is visible year round and turns from green to magenta during cold weather. This very hardy species is a perennial, and a heavy producer of blooms from April through July. However, pilosa can be observed to bloom year 'round in north Florida.

Phlox drummondii is not a true native wildflower in Florida. Originally thought to be from Texas, it has escaped from cultivation and grows in large colonies throughout the state. This annual grows 4 - 20 inches and blooms April to July. Large colonies are typical.

Coreopsis basalis: one of the Tickseed species, basalis blooms February - Ausust. It favors low grounds, disturbed sites and poor soil. An annual, it depends on making seeds after blooming to assure the next season's blooms. Full sun and dry conditions or wetter areas, this wildflower is easy to grow.

Gaillardia pulchella is an annual with many variations of color. It mounds and is stunning if given room to expand. Height to 2 ft. It blooms May through September and all year in Florida. Gaillardia will tolerate dry soil, full sun - though it thrives in many less harsh places such as sandy fields, roadsides and disturbed areas.

Coreopsis lanceolata: Another Tickseed specie that is highly adaptive to wet or dry conditions. Blooms May through July. Prefers dry soil. Height 1-2 ft. Will tolerate part shade and edges of water. 

Coreopsis leavenworthii is a Tickseed specie with less foliage and smaller flowers but wet adapted and dry tolerant. It grows throughout the state and will try to bloom all year. Height is 1-3 ft. Great for ditches or areas that hold water occasionally.

Echinacea purpurea: stands 1-5 ft. and blooms June through October. It will grow in shade or part day sun as well as full sun. This wildflower doubles as a true herb also. It has a long history in herbal healing and is a stately, durable looking plant.

Rudbeckia hirta: the knee-high variety of Black-eyed Susans. It is considered a biennial or short-lived perennial. Growing 1-3 ft, it blooms May through November. This variety grows throughout Florida and can flower all year.

Rudbeckia mollis: is a taller species of Black-eyed Susans, growing to 5 ft. It blooms June through August and prefers dry acid soils. It would be suitable for coastal areas

Ipomopsis rubra: also called Standing Cypress or Spanish Larkspur, blooms May to September. It will grow 2 to 6 ft. The red tubular flowers are a favorite of humming burds and butterflies. This species would be good for areas north of central Florida.
